Intuition, hard work, enthusiasm and a number of diverse collaborations with many major brands keep Castañer at the forefront of fashion since 1927, when Luis Castañer and his cousin Tomàs Serra founded their first espadrille workshop. In the mid 60s, the next generation, Lorenzo Castañer along with his wife Isabel, decided to add color to the iconic shoe, establishing the espadrille as one of the most authentic Mediterranean fashion staple for fashion lovers. In the early 70s, young Yves Saint Laurent approached Lorenzo and Isabel in a Parisian trade fair desperately looking for someone to craft him a wedge espadrille. "If Yves Saint Laurent wanted a wedge espadrille, a wedge espadrille he would have!" was Lorenzo Castañer’s reaction. The brand started manufacturing espadrilles for many renowned fashion houses ever since whilst the first Castañer shop opened in 1994 in Barcelona, followed by Madrid, Paris, Saint Tropez, Tokyo, Costa Brava and other emblematic cities in Spain and abroad. Shoebox can’t help but love the favorite authentic espadrilles that travel the world.
